Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
  • 3 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (for poke filling)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter (for peanut butter layer)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup mini Reese’s cups, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine chocolate cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water. Mix until smooth, about 2 minutes.
  3. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 28-32 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes.
  4. While cake is still warm, use the handle of a wooden spoon or a chopstick to poke holes all over the cake, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together sweetened condensed milk, 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour over warm cake, ensuring it fills the holes. Let cool completely.
  6. In a medium bowl, beat together 1/2 cup peanut butter and softened butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons milk, beat until creamy. Add more milk if needed.
  7. Spread peanut butter mixture evenly over cooled cake. Refrigerate for 30 minutes to set.
  8. Place chocolate chips in a heat-safe bowl. Heat heavy cream in a small saucepan until simmering. Pour over chocolate chips, let sit 2-3 minutes, then stir until smooth.
  9. Let ganache cool for 5 minutes, then pour over peanut butter layer and spread evenly.
  10. Sprinkle chopped Reese’s cups over ganache while still wet. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  11. Serve cold or at room temperature. For clean slices, use a sharp knife dipped in hot water and wiped dry between cuts.

Notes

For best results, use creamy peanut butter like Jif or Skippy, not natural. Chill overnight for optimal flavor and texture. To freeze, wrap individual slices tightly in plastic wrap and store in a freezer-safe bag for up to 3 months.
