A quick and festive Halloween appetizer featuring classic deviled eggs decorated with black olive legs and toothpicks to resemble spiders. This recipe is perfect for last-minute parties and requires minimal ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 large eggs, hard-boiled and peeled
  • 1/4 cup full-fat mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (plus more for dusting)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • 8–10 slices black olives (Kalamata or regular), pitted
  • Wooden toothpicks

Instructions

  1. Boil eggs in a saucepan covered with cold water. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat, cover, and let sit for 10-12 minutes.
  2. Transfer eggs to an ice bath and let cool completely for about 10 minutes to stop cooking and ease peeling.
  3. Peel the eggs under running water or in the ice bath. Slice each egg in half lengthwise and scoop the yolks into a mixing bowl.
  4. Mash the yolks with a fork until fine. Mix in mayonnaise, mustard, salt, pepper, and paprika until smooth and creamy.
  5. Slice black olives thinly. If slices are large, cut them in half lengthwise to create thinner ‘legs’.
  6. Transfer the yolk mixture to a piping bag or a Ziploc bag with the corner cut off. Pipe the filling neatly into each egg white half.
  7. Insert two toothpicks into the base of each egg white half to act as legs. Attach the olive slices to the ends of the toothpicks.
  8. Dust the tops lightly with paprika and add a tiny dot of mustard or paprika on the ‘head’ for eyes. Serve immediately or refrigerate.

Notes

For best results, use older eggs as they peel easier. Ensure the yolk mixture is smooth to prevent cracking. Attach olive legs just before serving to prevent sogginess. If the filling is too thick, add a teaspoon of milk or water.
