spiderweb charcuterie board - featured image

An easy, no-cook Halloween appetizer featuring a visually stunning spiderweb made from shaved cheddar cheese, served with crackers, fruits, nuts, and optional meats.

Ingredients

  • Sharp White Cheddar block (firm, not pre-shredded)
  • Sharp Orange Cheddar block
  • Sharp Yellow Cheddar block (optional)
  • Assorted Crackers (water crackers and pretzel crisps)
  • Baguette slices (toasted lightly)
  • Red and Green Grapes
  • Walnuts (halved)
  • Dried Cranberries
  • Black Olives (sliced)
  • Salami or Pepperoni (folded into rosettes, optional)
  • Food-safe Plastic Spiders

Instructions

  1. Remove cheese blocks from the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for 30 minutes to ensure they curl easily.
  2. Slice the baguette and toast lightly with olive oil if desired.
  3. Arrange crackers and baguette slices around the edges of a dark cutting board or slate, leaving a large circular space in the center.
  4. Hold the white cheddar block at a 45-degree angle and shave thin, translucent curls using a sharp chef’s knife. Pile the curls high in the center of the designated space.
  5. Shave orange cheddar curls and layer them over the white cheddar, rotating the pile slightly to create depth and color contrast.
  6. Using a toothpick, start from the center of the cheese pile and gently drag outward in concentric circles and radial lines to create a web-like pattern.
  7. Place food-safe plastic spiders on the web, including one in the center and a few on the outer edges.
  8. Fill the remaining spaces on the board with grapes, walnuts, dried cranberries, sliced olives, and optional meat rosettes.

Notes

Ensure cheese is at room temperature before shaving; cold cheese will snap instead of curl. Use firm cheeses like cheddar, gouda, or manchego. Avoid soft cheeses like brie. Plastic spiders are for decoration only and should be removed before eating.
