Halloween dirt cups - featured image

A quick, no-bake Halloween dessert featuring layers of creamy chocolate pudding and crunchy cookie crumbs, topped with gummy worms for a spooky, kid-friendly treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 boxes (3.4 oz each) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold whole milk
  • 24 chocolate sandwich cookies (Oreo-style)
  • 1 pack gummy worms
  • 8–10 clear plastic cups or small bowls
  • Optional: Mini chocolate chips for extra texture

Instructions

  1. Place 12 chocolate sandwich cookies in a ziploc bag and crush them using a rolling pin or heavy pan until you have a mix of fine crumbs and small chunks. Repeat with remaining cookies to get about 2 cups of crumbs. Set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the contents of two boxes of instant chocolate pudding mix with 2 cups of cold whole milk.
  3. Whisk vigorously by hand for 3-4 minutes or beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes until the mixture is thick and smooth.
  4. Spoon a thin layer of cookie crumbs into the bottom of each plastic cup.
  5. Add a generous scoop of chocolate pudding on top of the crumbs and smooth it slightly to form a mound.
  6. Sprinkle another layer of cookie crumbs generously over the pudding to cover it completely, mimicking dirt.
  7. Tuck gummy worms into the top layer of crumbs to look like they are burrowing out.
  8. Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes to allow the pudding to set and flavors to meld.
  9. Serve immediately, adding fresh gummy worms if they were stored separately.

Notes

Chill mixing bowls for 10 minutes before making pudding for better texture. Do not add gummy worms until just before serving to prevent them from becoming slimy. For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free cookies and pudding mix. For a vegan version, use plant-based milk and vegan pudding/cookies.
