A perfectly balanced fall cocktail featuring tart apple cider, fresh lime, smooth blanco tequila, and a warm toasted cinnamon-sugar rim. Quick, easy, and ideal for gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 oz (60 ml) silver or blanco tequila
  • 2 oz (60 ml) apple cider (unfiltered, no added sugar preferred)
  • 1 oz (30 ml) fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz (30 ml) orange liqueur (Cointreau or Triple Sec)
  • 1/2 oz (15 ml) maple syrup or agave nectar (optional, if cider is tart)
  • Ice (large cubes preferred)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Apple slice and cinnamon stick (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cinnamon sugar rim: On a small plate, mix 2 tablespoons granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. For deeper flavor, toast cinnamon in a dry skillet over medium heat for 30 seconds, stirring constantly, then let cool before mixing with sugar.
  2. Prep your glass: Run a lime wedge around the outside edge of a rocks glass. Dip the glass into the cinnamon sugar mixture, rotating gently to coat evenly. Tap off excess. Set aside.
  3. Juice the lime: Roll the lime on the counter before cutting to release more juice. Cut in half and juice to get about 1 oz (30 ml). Strain out seeds.
  4. Combine liquid ingredients: In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz (60 ml) blanco tequila, 2 oz (60 ml) apple cider, 1 oz (30 ml) fresh lime juice, and 1 oz (30 ml) orange liqueur. If cider is very tart, add 1/2 oz (15 ml) maple syrup or agave nectar.
  5. Add ice and shake: Fill the shaker about 3/4 full with ice. Seal tightly and shake vigorously for 15 seconds until the shaker feels frosty.
  6. Strain and serve: Fill the prepared glass with fresh ice. Strain the margarita into the glass.
  7. Garnish: Add a thin apple slice and a cinnamon stick to the glass. The cinnamon stick doubles as a stirrer.

Notes

For best results, use fresh lime juice and toast the cinnamon for the rim. Only wet the outside edge of the glass to prevent cinnamon sugar from falling into the drink. Chill the glass in the freezer for 10 minutes before starting. If making a pitcher, combine all liquid ingredients (except ice) and refrigerate up to 24 hours; rim glasses just before serving.
