This Easy Caramel Apple Sangria is a non-alcoholic fall drink that tastes like autumn in a glass. Sweet but not cloying, rich yet refreshing, it features apple cider, white grape juice, caramel sauce, and fresh fruit for a stunning party centerpiece.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups apple cider (unfiltered preferred)
  • 2 cups white grape juice (or apple juice)
  • 1 cup sparkling water (plain or lemon-flavored)
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (pure)
  • 2 large Honeycrisp apples, thinly sliced
  • 1 large Granny Smith apple, thinly sliced
  • 1 large pear (Bosc or Anjou), thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup fresh cranberries (optional)
  • 23 cinnamon sticks
  • Extra caramel sauce for rimming glasses
  • Turbinado sugar for rimming glasses
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the caramel base: In a small saucepan over low heat, warm 1/2 cup of caramel sauce until pourable. Do not boil. Stir in vanilla extract and lemon juice while warm. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Slice the fruit: Wash all fruit thoroughly. Core apples and pear, then slice into thin rounds about 1/4 inch thick. Place in a large pitcher. Rinse cranberries and add whole if using.
  3. Mix the juices: Pour apple cider and white grape juice into the pitcher over the fruit. Stir gently with a wooden spoon.
  4. Add the caramel mixture: Slowly pour the warm caramel mixture into the pitcher while stirring for about 30 seconds until the liquid looks uniform in color.
  5. Add cinnamon sticks: Drop in 2-3 cinnamon sticks. For stronger flavor, break one in half before adding.
  6. Chill overnight: Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, but overnight is best for the fruit to release flavor.
  7. Prepare the glass rims: Just before serving, pour a thin layer of caramel sauce onto a small plate. Spread turbinado sugar on another plate. Dip each glass rim first into caramel, then into sugar. Let set for 2 minutes.
  8. Add the sparkle: When ready to serve, stir in 1 cup of sparkling water. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
  9. Serve immediately: Pour into prepared glasses, making sure each serving gets a few slices of fruit. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and rosemary sprig if desired.

Notes

Don’t skip the lemon juice—it prevents apple browning and brightens flavor. Use room-temperature caramel to avoid clumping. Layer fruit in pitcher before adding juice for better flavor absorption. The sangria base (without sparkling water) can be made up to 2 days ahead. Add sparkling water just before serving for best texture. For a warm version, skip sparkling water and heat gently on stovetop.
