These crispy mummy pigs in a blanket are a fun, easy-to-make Halloween party snack featuring mini sausages wrapped in flaky puff pastry strips with a gooey cheese center.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • Mini sausages or cocktail franks (all-beef or turkey)
  • Sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water or milk
  • Poppy seeds or sesame seeds (for eyes)
  • Yellow mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out thawed puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface and slice into 1/2-inch wide strips.
  3. Place a mini sausage at the bottom end of a pastry strip diagonally. Sprinkle with grated cheddar cheese.
  4. Fold the bottom corner over the sausage and wrap the strip around it like a mummy, leaving the top exposed for the face. Press the end to seal.
  5. Place wrapped pigs on the baking sheet, leaving an inch of space between them.
  6. Cut a horizontal slit near the top of each pig and add a tiny dab of yellow mustard.
  7. Brush the tops generously with the egg wash and sprinkle two poppy seeds on top for eyes.
  8. Bake for 15-20 minutes until puffed and deep golden brown.
  9. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Keep pastry cold until baking to ensure flakiness. Do not overcrowd the baking sheet. Can be assembled up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerated. For vegan version, use plant-based sausages and vegan puff pastry.
